Skip Bayless Calls Out Ohio State After Historic Collapse Against Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — Sports commentator Skip Bayless sharply criticized No. 1 Ohio State following the Buckeyes’ stunning 24-23 loss to Texas on Saturday night.

Minutes after Texas completed a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback, Bayless posted on X that Ohio State “should be ashamed,” directing his criticism at both the coaching staff and players.

Ohio State appeared to have complete control of the game, leading 20-3 at halftime before extending the advantage to 23-3 with 8:09 remaining in the third quarter. However, Texas responded with three consecutive touchdown drives and scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.

Arch Manning connected with Ryan Wingo for a 3-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter before Hollywood Smothers scored on a 1-yard run with 7:17 remaining. Ohio State then missed a 45-yard field goal with 4:16 left, giving Texas another opportunity.

Smothers delivered the decisive blow with another 1-yard touchdown run with just 26 seconds remaining, giving the Longhorns their first lead of the night.

The defeat ended Ohio State’s remarkable streak of 115 consecutive victories when leading by 20 points. The Buckeyes also entered the game with a 309-0 all-time record when leading by at least 17 points at halftime.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day admitted his team failed to finish the game.

“This one hurts,” Day said. “We had them on the ropes and didn’t finish.”

Day added that he could not fully explain the collapse but said everyone involved must take responsibility and correct the problems moving forward.

The loss dropped Ohio State to 1-1 after its season-opening 56-3 victory over Ball State. The Buckeyes will look to rebound when they host Kent State next Saturday.
